Color: Coordinate everyone’s clothing, rule of thumb is to pick 2-3 colors that work well together. Different shades of the same color also work well. Avoid clothes with big logos, graphics, large busy patterns, and excessively bright colors.
Imagine the location of your session and the season: are you going to the beach or is your session during the fall with the backdrop of autumn leaves and chose your outfits accordingly.
What type of ‘vibe’ do you want your photos to convey. Do you want your images to be relaxed and laid back or more formal? and put together outfits that match the look you are trying to achieve.
Be yourself, don’t wear something you wouldn’t normally wear, for example If your daughter doesn’t like wearing dresses, maybe she’ll be more comfortable and happy in the images if she isn’t wearing a dress. If young children are involved, having a backup outfit can be wise in the event of a mishap.
Don't be afraid to accessorize, a scarf, bow tie or hat can make the photo by adding interest, but, again, the accessory should fit your personality.
Plan for your session, try on the clothes and shoes, iron out any wrinkles, do you need a belt… Make sure shoes fit – if children are wearing shoes that are a too tight their discomfort will show in the pictures.
